Trial of 23 BDR mutineers begins in B`baria today

BRAHMANBARIA, Oct 12(UNB): A special court, designed to deal with the 2009 BDR mutiny, will start trial proceedings of 23 jawans of 1 Rifles Battalion of Kalikachchha in Sarail upazila at the battalion here on Wednesday morning.
Major Sheikh Masrur Ahmed Shihab of 1 Rifles Battaion told UNB during a view-exchange on Tuesday that proceedings will resume at 9:30am on Wednesday.
He said all preparations, including necessary securiy steps, have been taken to ensure smooth holding of trial of the 23 accused who will be brought from the district jail to the battalion amid tight security on Thursday.
A 3-member panel of judges, led by Col M A Farhad, will hold the trial.
